What does mental health mean?

Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.


Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including:

  • Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry
  • Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse
  • Family history of mental health problems

Does having mental health challenges mean I am crazy or abnormal?

Absolutely, positively 100% not!

How do I pay for mental health or substance abuse services?

There are many payers of mental health. Private insurance will cover part of the cost of mental health services. If you have Medical Assistance the entire cost is covered. Some people also choose to pay out of pocket for the expense.


Bright Futures Ahead, LLC. only accept Medical Assistance, Uninsured and
fee for service (out of pocket) for DUI/DWI program

How often do I need to participate?

Children three times per month contact with the Rehabilitation Coordinator

Adults 6 times per month contact with the Rehabilitation Coordinator

How does and individual/clinician get a referral for services with Bright Futures Ahead?

Any individual interested in receiving mental health/ substance abuse treatment may call our main number to schedule an appointment (410) 744-7900.


If you are a professional wishing to make a referral on the behalf of a client you may complete our referral form from the “contact us” page and fax to (410) 744-0091 or email to info@brightfuturesahead.com. If you have any questions about making a referral please do not hesitate to call us at (410) 744-7900.

Do I have a gambling problem or mental health problem?

Screening for gambling problems is important because few people seek treatment for these problems and instead seek help for other complaints (e.g., insomnia, stress-related problems, depression, anxiety, interpersonal issues).
